The Do's and Dont's of Time Travel

I created posters and related print and social media assets for Quantum Dragon Theatre's production of the stage play, The Do's and Don'ts of Time Travel by Nicholas Wardigo. A play about a woman who keeps traveling back in time to relive the same two-year period before her girlfriend’s death. I had already established a consistent theme for the theatre company’s season: black and white photography-based posters with a screentone overlay accompanied by a small splash of color, so I was working within those brand parameters. I also wanted to include the full four-person cast on the poster because for an emerging company like Quantum Dragon Theatre, recognizing a friend or family member’s face generates interest and ticket sales.

The cast’s profiles create two hourglass shapes. We are also forced to ask, “which way is up?”, playing into the theme of multiple timelines as well as that of having two actors perform one role. The splash of blue in the two actors’ hair came from them donning blue wigs to perform the same character in the play as well as the importance of the wig in the narrative. This helped connect the two faces on the poster and created an unintentionally fortuitous homage to Blue is the Warmest Color .

5x7 mailable postcards. I chose this color scheme to suggest the intimacy of this four-person play and to once again center the color blue.
